Children travelling alone

Please check with your airline, from which age onwards and up to which age children travelling alone are accepted for the UM service (UM is the abbreviation for “Unaccompanied Minor”).

The UM service should be requested with the airline in advance and be paid for at the time of booking, (depending on the conditions of carriage). Some airlines offer a UM service payment at the airport.

Please be advised, that children travelling alone should arrive at the check-in counter no later than 2 hours prior to departure.

The children have to be accompanied to the airport by an adult and picked up by an adult upon arrival. The name, the address and the mobile phone number of the respective persons are recorded prior to departure. The accompanying adults have to present their ID cards.

All relevant documents, e. g. assistance advice and UM bags, will be supplied during the check-in procedure. You will only be requested to produce a booking confirmation, your valid ID card and – if applicable – a payment receipt for the UM service. Some airlines offer the option for passengers to fill in the assistance information directly on the website. In this case, you are required to bring five copies of the assistance information to the check-in.

Shortly before boarding commences, the boarding agent will take the children through the security checkpoint and accompany them to the aircraft. The children are then handed over to the crew. The person accompanying the children to the airport should remain at the airport for at least 15 minutes after the effective flight departure time.

Upon arrival, the children are picked up by the ground staff and handed over to the adult responsible for pick-up.
