Rappenwört Centre for Nature Conservation, Karlsruhe
In the middle of the forest, surrounded by the Old Rhine, on the Rhine island of Rappenwört lies the Karlsruhe-Rappenwört Nature Conservation Centre. Large wooden sculptures and game enclosures with wild boar, red deer and fallow deer line the path from the tram stop at Rheinstrandbad to the centre.
A modern permanent exhibition provides insights into the nature of the Rheinaue. Numerous display boards and models illustrate the history of the Rhine and the ecological importance of the floodplain.
In a children’s and family adventure room, nature conservation topics and information about the Rhine floodplain are presented in a playful and child-friendly way. Throughout the year, various temporary exhibitions, lectures, seminars, workshops, nature experience days, holiday programmes and children’s birthday parties are offered. Natural history and nature education tours are also part of the programme.
