The scenic B500 road, which is locally known as the ‘Schwarzwaldhochstrasse’ (‘Black Forest High Road’), stretches over 37 miles from Baden-Baden via Ruhestein to Freudenstadt and is the major access route to the Black Forest National Park. Turn off left or right and minor roads take you through spectacular sceneries into idyllic valleys, where a wealth of paths and trails are waiting to be discovered. On a clear day the amazing views from various points on the road reach as far as the Rhine valley and even beyond to France. There are also several hotels and cosy restaurants along the route. And when winter comes, the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse is a hotspot for winter sports enthusiasts. The ski slopes at the ‘Mehliskopf’, ‘Hundseck’, and ‘Ruhestein’ mountains as well as the numerous cross-country ski routes starting from the ‘Herrenwies’ Cross-Country Centre promise never-ending winter fun.
